Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty
Q. What is Rhinoplasty?
A. Rhinoplasty can be either an aesthetic nasal surgery (a re-shaping of
the nose to improve its appearance) or reconstructive nasal surgery (to
correct birth defects and disfigurements resulting from injury or to
relieve nasal obstruction due to an internal deformity).
Q.What is the first thing I should do when considering Rhinoplasty?
A. An office consultation is the first step to take. We'll talk about why
you want surgery and what results you can expect. As in all instances
where aesthetic surgery is considered, emotional stability is a key
factor. You should keep in mind that the desired result is improvement.
not perfection.
Q.What happens after my rhinoplasty consultation?
A. Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Gary Alter, MD, will discuss the
techniques and anesthesia to be used, as well as the possible risks and
complications associated with this procedure.
Q. What are some of the changes that can be made to a nose during
rhinoplasty?
A. Thinoplasty is typically performed to reduce the overall size of the
nose, re-shape a tip, remove a nasal hump, or improve a poor angle between
the nose and the upper tip. In some patients, it's necessary to add tissue
in order to improve the contour. One or all of these changes may be made
during a single operation.
Q.Can Rhinoplasty be done at any age?
A. In most instances, the earliest recommended age for an aesthetic
rhinoplasty is the mid-teen years when the nose has attained 90 percent
growth. In older individuals health, rather than age, is a determining
variable.
Example: 26 year old female underwent rhinoplasty (nose reshaping and reduction) and insertion of chin implant.
